What Is Pilates?

The Pilates Method is a low impact exercise designed to help anyone return to the health they enjoyed when they were young. It will teach you to move more smoothly and confidently, with strong, uniformly developed muscles with calm, focused energy. The goal of a Pilates' workout is to strengthen and tighten the muscular area around your overstressed joints or ligaments, rather than work directly on and further tax these body parts. By moving your body gently and precisely within its natural alignment you will encourage the muscles to work more deliberately to support the joints.

Unlike other types of exercise, you can start with Pilates at any stage of your pregnancy and still reap tremendous benefits.* It is absolutely never too late to learn.

For many pregnant women, this is a time that they feel the greatest need and motivation to get fit and look after themselves. The Pilates Method provides the prenatal body with deep overall conditioning as it elongates and aligns her body. It also, helps strengthen the body for a smoother delivery. For the postnatal woman, Pilates will balance the inconsistencies resulting from pregnancy and birth. After childbirth it can help the mother return to her pre-pregnancy body shape and fitness regime.

Q: So why is Pilates better than anything else to help build the strength mothers need? Answer...
